Atu Yohana Mgaya, a pre-primary teacher at Sambala Primary School in Mawengi Ward, Ludewa District, Njombe Region, expresses her joy and pride in being among the teachers who received training on how to teach children using the 'Jifunze' methodology, part of the 'Kijiji Changu' (My Village) project implemented by the Uwezo Tanzania organization.
Teacher Atu notes that this training has enabled her to employ various participatory teaching methods, which have proven effective in helping many children master reading, writing, and numeracy skills.
While she takes pride in her success in helping children master these essential skills, Teacher Atu points out that children still face various learning challenges, including issues related to the learning environment.
Furthermore, she calls upon the government and various stakeholders including non-governmental organizations to assist in addressing the challenges that hinder children's learning.
Atu expresses her gratitude to Uwezo Tanzania and the Njombe Regional Government for providing training to her and her fellow teachers, aimed at enhancing their ability to teach children reading, writing, and numeracy skills. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Uwezo for providing us with this valuable training. I have learned new techniques that I will use to help children master essential skills for instance, by teaching them through songs and games,” says Teacher Atu.
She concludes by offering advice to her fellow teachers, noting that to effectively help children master these key skills, they must first have a genuine love for their profession; furthermore, by showing affection for the children, they will inspire the children to become interested in and develop a love for learning.
